Newlyweds among 18 killed in Katsina road accident

At least 18 passengers have died following a tragic head-on collision involving two commercial vehicles along the Dutsinma–Karofi–Radda Road in Katsina State.

The accident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, when two Golf commercial vehicles travelling from opposite directions reportedly lost control and collided.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the vehicles was conveying wedding guests from Dutsinma to Kafin Soli, while the other was coming from Kano with passengers.

The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to burst into flames, leaving three passengers severely burnt. The remains of the deceased were taken to the General Hospital in Dutsinma.

Among the victims were reportedly a groom, his bride, and several of their friends who had just attended their wedding Fatiha.

A friend of the groom, Zakari Haradu Aboro, who was part of the wedding celebration, confirmed the incident in an emotional account.

He stated that shortly after leaving the bride’s house, they received a distressing phone call informing them that the owner of the phone had died in a fatal accident.

According to him, it was later confirmed that the vehicle conveying the groom, his bride, and their friends had been involved in the crash. Sixteen people were said to have died instantly, including the newlyweds.

The tragic incident has thrown families and residents of the area into mourning, with calls for prayers and improved road safety measures.
