Tyla Wins Best African Music Performance at 2026 Grammys

South African singer, Tyla has emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance category at this Year Grammy Awards, edging out Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr.

Tyla clinched the coveted prize with her hit single “Push 2 Start,” defeating Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love.

The category, created to spotlight African music on the global stage, once again showcased Nigeria’s dominance, with Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr making the final shortlist.

Speaking during her acceptance speech, Tyla thanked fans across Africa and beyond, describing the win as “a powerful moment for African music.”

“This award means everything to me. Africa is bursting with talent, and I’m honoured to be part of this incredible movement. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and supported Push 2 Start,” she said.

With the victory, Tyla becomes a two-time Grammy winner in the category, having previously made history as the inaugural recipient with her breakout hit Water. Her latest triumph further cements her growing influence on the global music scene.

Despite missing out on the award, Nigerian artistes continued to earn praise for their strong presence, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a powerhouse of African music exports.
