FAAN Shuts Lagos Airport’s Runway 18R for Urgent Repairs

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Runway 18R at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMA), Lagos, to facilitate essential rehabilitation work. The closure, which began at 3:00 AM on March 3, 2025, will remain in effect until 11:59 PM on March 4, 2025.

According to FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the maintenance focuses on resurfacing the asphalt phase of the A2 Taxiway-link. This repair is crucial for maintaining the airport’s infrastructure, ensuring safety, and optimizing flight operations at Nigeria’s busiest international gateway.

During the closure, all international flights have been redirected to the domestic runway. FAAN has assured passengers and airlines that flight schedules will not be significantly affected.

The authority urges travelers and airline operators to adhere to all operational adjustments and directives throughout the rehabilitation period. FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to safety, security, and passenger comfort as it undertakes this vital infrastructure upgrade.
