Fire Engulfs 18 Offices at Northwest University, Kano-No Casualties Reported

An early morning fire has ravaged 18 offices at Northwest University, Kano, causing significant structural damage but no reported casualties.

The inferno, which broke out on the eighth floor of the university’s nine-story administrative building, completely destroyed seven offices and a corridor, while 11 adjoining offices sustained minor damage.

According to Kabiru Isah Jaafar, speaking on behalf of the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, the department received an emergency call from a concerned citizen, Mannir Abdullahi, alerting them to the blaze.

Firefighters from multiple stations within the Kano metropolitan area were swiftly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found extensive fire damage but managed to contain the flames before they spread further.

“Firefighters utilized four jets to extinguish the blaze, successfully preventing further destruction and saving valuable property worth thousands of naira,” Kabiru stated.

He emphasized that the fire service, under the leadership of Director DFS Alhaji Sani Anas, acted promptly and efficiently, mitigating potential loss of life and minimizing structural damage.

In the wake of the incident, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety protocols. The Kano State Fire Service also reiterated the importance of promptly reporting emergencies, including fires, accidents, and drowning cases, to the nearest fire service office.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and assess further preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
