A tragic accident has claimed the lives of four seminarians and left nine others injured near the renowned Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State. The incident occurred on Saturday at Ikwette community, located by the bottom hill of the popular tourist destination.
According to a statement released by Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, the vehicle involved was carrying thirteen seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Diocese. The group, led by a Reverend Father, had just concluded a sightseeing tour of the Obudu Ranch Resort when the accident happened.
“The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a possible brake failure may have contributed to the devastating crash. The victims were traveling in a bus that reportedly lost control at a steep descent outside the resort premises.
Governor Bassey Otu, through his spokesperson, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public of the state government’s commitment to visitor safety.
“Safety is our utmost priority in the Ranch Resort and beyond, and we will be reviewing the safety measures in place at the Ranch Resort for every visitor,” Gill noted. “We urge all visitors to prioritize safety, including the roadworthiness of their vehicles, and to adhere to all guidelines while exploring our beautiful attractions.”
The Cross River State Government emphasized its commitment to maintaining safety standards across the state’s tourism destinations and pledged to prevent such incidents in the future.
