Nigeria has lost one of its foremost intellectuals and statesmen as former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Professor Jibrin Aminu, passed away on Thursday at his residence in Abuja. He was 85 years old.
The announcement was made by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who expressed profound grief over Aminu’s passing. In a heartfelt statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri described the late Aminu as “a towering figure in Nigeria’s intellectual and political landscape.”
Born in Adamawa State, Prof. Aminu carved an illustrious career spanning decades of public service. Beyond his tenure as Petroleum Minister, he also served as Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Ambassador to the United States, and as Senator representing Adamawa Central.
“In every role he occupied, Professor Aminu exemplified dignity, wisdom, and a steadfast commitment to national progress,” Governor Fintiri stated. “Nigeria has lost one of its finest minds — a devoted public servant, a silent reformer, and a distinguished son of Adamawa whose legacy will continue to illuminate the path for future generations.”
The governor further commended Aminu’s invaluable contributions to education, diplomacy, and politics, noting that his enduring legacy of patriotism and humility would be sorely missed by the nation.
Governor Fintiri offered prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Almighty God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal peace. He also extended his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and countless Nigerians who were touched by Aminu’s extraordinary life and service.
“Though his passing leaves a significant void, his life’s work remains a beacon for all who seek to serve with honor and wisdom,” Fintiri added.
