The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume in mid-August, beginning with an online pre-registration phase.
According to a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, the physical, in-person registration will commence a week after the online process begins.

Both online and in-person registration will then run simultaneously for a full year, concluding on August 30, 2026.

The CVR exercise will be conducted at 811 centres across Nigeria, including INEC offices in all 774 local government areas, as well as the 37 state and Federal Capital Territory offices. Registration will take place on all working days, excluding national public holidays.

To make the process easier, INEC will introduce an online CVR Live Locator to help citizens identify the nearest registration centres.

On political party registration, the commission disclosed that it has received eight new letters of intent from associations seeking to register as political parties, bringing the total to 151 applications so far.

Details of the latest submissions have been published on INEC’s website. The commission has commenced shortlisting associations that meet the criteria to move on to the application stage.
