There was tension in Abuja on Tuesday when armed military personnel reportedly stopped the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from accessing a disputed parcel of land.

In a video shared by Channels Television, the soldiers were seen standing guard at the site, preventing the minister and his entourage from entering the land. One of the soldiers appeared to be making a phone call while Wike, visibly displeased, reprimanded his aides as he attempted to move forward.

During the standoff, one of Wike’s aides was heard confronting the soldiers, saying, This is unprofessional; you cannot be facing a minister with this thing.” The tense situation soon escalated into a physical altercation between members of the minister’s team and some of the military personnel.

As of press time, neither the minister nor the FCTA had issued an official statement regarding the confrontation or the reason for the military’s presence on the land.
