President Bola Tinubu has approved a significant reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis across federal hospitals, cutting fees from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000 per session.
The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Information, Daniel Bwala, announced the development via his official X handle, describing the move as a major relief for thousands of Nigerians battling kidney-related diseases.
“With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing relief to citizens struggling with kidney conditions,” Bwala stated.
He disclosed that the subsidy has already taken effect in several federal medical centres and teaching hospitals nationwide, including:
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja
University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta
Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos
Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare
University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin
University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar
Bwala further revealed that more federal hospitals will be added before the year ends, ensuring wider access for patients across all six geopolitical zones.
This development comes months after Tinubu also approved free caesarean sections (C-sections) for pregnant women in federal hospitals, a policy aimed at improving maternal healthcare and reducing preventable deaths.
“These measures reflect the Renewed Hope Agenda in action—ensuring no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost,” Bwala added.
