NCAA Workshop: Media Tasked On Constructive, Accurate And Investigative Reportage Of Aviation Sector

The media has been advised to hold aviation industry players such as airlines, airports, and regulatory bodies accountable in prioritizing safety and security.

They stressed the need for the capacity of media professionals to be strengthened to report aviation-related incidents accurately, avoiding sensationalism and understanding the implications of their reportage on public perception and safety.

These were part of the outcome of a media workshop with the theme: Driving Aviation Safety and Security Through Effective Regulation – The Role of the Media,” organised by the Public Relations Department of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in Nasarawa State.

This is contained in a Communique presented at the end of the two – day workshop.

According to the communique, the event featured presentations by resource persons from a private firm, Mr Temitope Jegede and Dr Ola Azeez who elaborated on the responsibilities and influence of the media in the aviation sector.

It explained that the workshop provided media representatives with an in-depth understanding of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), its functions, and its regulatory framework to ensuring that journalists have a solid grasp of the regulatory body.

It stated that the media was encouraged to report on the NCAA consistently and constructively through in-depth investigations into safety lapses, security breaches, and regulatory shortcomings.

It explained that the media contributes significantly to maintaining the highest safety and security standards, ultimately safeguarding passengers’ lives and the aviation industry’s integrity.
