The Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Mrs Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, says the rejection of 111 seats for women at the National Assembly was a big blow to the future of women participation in politics.
Mrs Onyejeocha gave the indication while briefing newsmen in Abuja and described Nigeria as the least in terms of women representation.
The deputy chief whip, who is the sponsor of the Bill said such rejection could cause the country to lose alot from development partners.
She observed that the rejection had taken the country fifty years backward.
According to her, sixty percent of those that always attend political meetings were women.
A member from Borno State, Mrs Zainab Gimba, observed that the bills were misunderstood by majority of the lawmakers.
Mrs Gimba stated that the passage of the bill would have booted women participation in politics, as women find it tough to contest for seats due to men’s dominance in the political scene.
