Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has appealed to Saudi Arabia’s government to lift its suspension of Umrah, lesser Hajj to enable Nigerian Muslims to participate in this year’s Ummura before the Ramadan fasting period.
Governor Tambuwal made the appeal in a message to the fifth edition of dawrah refresher course in the reading of the Holy Qur’an, at Umm Al-Qura University UQU.
Represented by the Dean of the Institute of Arabic Language for Non-native Speakers, Dr. Hasan bin Abdul-Hamid bin Abdul-Hakim Bukhari, the Governor called on the Saudi Kingdom to bring in investment to Nigeria that will help empowered the people of the country.
He pointed out that the Kingdom and its nationals invest heavily in countries where the number of Muslims was not as much as in Nigeria.
While Commenting on the importance of dawrah, the Governor emphasized on the significance of educating people, especially in the ways of Islamic religion. He commended the team who came from Saudi Arabia to Sokoto despite the negative news of insecurity in Nigeria.
Earlier, Sheikh Abdul-Hamid, expressed gratitude to Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, for collaborating with his institution to make the conduct of the dawrah a success
He said Saudi Arabia was not unaware of the historic contributions of the Sokoto Caliphate to the development a islam in Nigeria and Africa.
