Trust Fund: DG NYSC Urges Bill Passage
Toscad News The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shu’aibu Ibrahim on Tuesday appealed to the relevant authorities to facilitate the success of the remaining processes on the Bill for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund to bring it to fruition.
The Director-General made the plea in Taraba State while addressing Corps Members during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch “A” Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp Sibre, Ardo Kola LGA of the State.
Represented by the Taraba State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Nzoka, the DG said once the Trust Fund becomes operational, the quality of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Program will be further enhanced through the provision of adequate training materials and engagement of more specialist trainers.
According to him, all trainees with bankable business proposals will also be supported with start-up grants, while in return the Corps Members would be expected to step down the vocational training or employ a good number of youths in their communities.
Maj. General Shu’aibu Ibrahim was optimistic that by doing that, the NYSC will be pulling millions of Nigerians out of poverty, thereby stemming the tide of youth restiveness as well as the tendency for criminality in the society.
He, however, assured the Corps Members that their welfare and security are topmost on the NYSC priority list, while he thanked the National Assembly for the progress made so far on the legislative processes on the Bill for the establishment of the Trust Fund.
On his part, the Taraba State NYSC Coordinator, Mr.Anthony Nzoka advised the Corps Members to utilize the skills acquired and turn it into a money-making venture, while he warned them against unauthorized journeys, as well as drug abuse among other social vices.
One of the Corps Members, Blessing Binitie in an interview described the SAED Program as impactful and expressed readiness to serve her fatherland to the best of her ability.
High points of the occasion included inspection of special guards of honor mounted by the Corps Members at the entrance of the Camp by the DG’s representative, as well as a colorful Terminal Parade carried out by 1,900 Corps Members at the NYSC parade ground that was reviewed by the State Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Nzoka which was an indication that the Corps Members were both physically and mentally fit to carry out their National Assignment.
