Some shop owners in Abuja have filed a contempt charge at a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, sitting in Maitama, against the Minister of the FCT, the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, Abuja Markets Management Limited and two others in respect of the 38 Shops at the Zone 3 Shopping Complex, Wuse, Abuja.
The contempt application was drawn from a suit filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Chukwunonso Machukwu-Ume on behalf of his clients Olugbenga Odubayo and 4 others.
In the contempt charge, the Claimants want an order of the court to commit a Private Developer, Blizzard Nigeria Limited, its directors, and two others to prison or to pay a fine for contempt, having tampered with the suit and defying the specific orders of the court to maintain status quo.
The Claimant, Jinifa Allied Limited, also alleged that the defendants, particularly Blizzard, had illegally engaged and encouraged armed officers to meddle with actions that had caused mayhem in the premises of the Complex and desecrated the dignity of the Court.
The judge, Justice Hamza Mu’azu, had on the 14th of last month, issued an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants from demolishing or interfering in the Zone 3 Shopping Complex, Wuse, pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
