JAMB Accuses Institutions Of Higher Learning Of Illegal, Top-up Admissions… NYSC Threatens Prosecution

The Joint Admission And Matriculation Board, JAMB, has accused Institutions of higher learning of manipulations and illegalities in the admission process.
The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the allegations while addressing Registrars of schools from the northern states at an event organized by the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC targeted at finding solutions to illegal Mobilization.
Professor Oloyede alleged that close to one million persons had been admitted illegally in the nation’s institution of higher learning from 2017 to 20211.
He explained that few of the number was from federal universities, while the illegal admissions were largely from States and private institutions, stressing that illegal admission was the foundation for illegal NYSC mobilization.
Professor Oloyede explained that a Central Admission Processing System, CAPS, had been created to address the challenge but that the illegality had continued.
He emphasized that the Board had commenced the process of prosecuting offenders, and advised the NYSC to rely on CAPS for it’s mobilization.
Meanwhile, the Director General of NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim explained that, the purpose of the meeting was to seek ways of elimination increasing flaws in the NYSC mobilisation process.
“Gaps have already been identified with a number of resolutions reached on how to eradicate recurrent challenges but implementation has remained elusive. Thus, the agenda for today’s meeting is encapsulated in the theme: APPRECIATING THE ROLE OF REGISTRARS AS FULCRUM IN THE MOBILISATION PROCESS”.
“It is drawn in recognition of the pivotal position of school Registrars in the formulation and implementation of policies. In schools where Registrars have abdicated their roles to subordinate officers, we have seen various forms of abuses and shortfalls. This has given rise to occasional mobilisation of unqualified persons, many of whom have been detected and fished out by NYSC field officers”.
He emphasized that the scheme was determined to tighten loopholes and commence the prosecution of anyone found complicit in the mobilisation of unqualified persons.
The NYSC DG also called on Nigerians to support the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund which he said would help empower corps members and address unemployment.
The theme of the meeting is: “APPRECIATING THE ROLE OF REGISTRARS AS FULCRUM IN THE MOBILISATION PROCESS”.
