A Former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okwesirieze Nwodo has stressed the need for a constitutional provisions that will involve youths and women in politics.
He speaking at the 2022 Democracy Day Symposium and Awards organized by the Cambridge University Nigerian Society at the United Kingdom.
Addressing the gathering virtually, Dr Nwodo explained that aim of the proposal was to ensure active participation of youths and women in the Country’s democracy apart from the opportunity to via to available positions during elections.
He said that it was difficult for women and Youths to have equal opportunity with the money bags in the electoral process and democracy until there was an act of parliament giving such opportunities.
Dr Nwodo also advocated a strong and independent wing in political parties for mentorship to identify youths with leadership qualities.
Also contributing virtually, the National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria, Professor Dickson Akoh appealed to the National Assembly to entrench a democratic module that would enable Nigerians in diaspora vote during elections.
Professor Akoh added that those in prison across the Country should also be allowed to vote as they were still Nigerians and constitute a large population.
