The FCT Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has staged a media rally to mark the global 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence.
At the event in Abuja, the Chairperson of the Association, Anna Daniel pointed out that female journalists also face violence while carrying out their jobs and urged media practitioners to compliment the campaign.
This year’s global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence runs from the 25th of November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to the 10th of December, the Human Rights Day.
As part of efforts to support the campaign, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, FCT Chapter, led by it’s Chairperson, Anna Daniel, engaged in a media campaign, during it’s monthly Congress, to draw support for women and girls affected by Gender Based Violence.
Comrade Daniel said the Association was saddled with issues related to women and children and as such, should to make meaningful contributions towards addressing the trend.
A member of the Association, Grace Ike stressed the need for Women Journalists across the country to reach out to other women in offices and communities to implement the theme for the year.
The Vice President, Zone D of the Association, Mrs. Chizoba Ogbeche encouraged women Journalists to be more proactive and professional in carrying out their duties.
The women carried placards with inscriptions such as: “I’m a girl, not a tool of exchange”, I’m a woman, not an inferior gender, equality for all” violence for none.
The theme for this year’s event is: “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”
