Federal government says it is committed to restoring lasting peace in the South-east region.
President Bola Tinubu stated this while unveiling the Logo of the Peace in South East Project, PISE-P, a strategic platform for the restoration of peace in the South East region envisioned by the Deputy Speaker House of Representative Chief Benjamin Kalu.
The event also was part of activities to mark the civic reception, thanksgiving & homecoming by the Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, by his kinsmen at Bende Local Government area of Abia state.
The President who was represented by his Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima said the South East geopolitical zone serves as an enduring economic power house which needed to be restored to its former glory.
According to him, the federal government will not relent in its efforts in tackling insecurity and other forms of criminality in the region.
President Tinubu applauded the convener of the peace project, Chief Ben Kalu stressing that he is in tune with the realities in the region and in achieving an enduring peace.
While declaring the South East peace resolution, the host Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, said the people were happy to have Chief Benjamin Kalu as their son in Abia State and commended the convener of the program for his efforts towards making the project a success.
However, the chairman of the event and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe called on South East leaders to come together to achieve their desired goals in the region.
Also speaking, the Chairman South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma commended Chief Ben Kalu for the excellent idea of the peace project for the Igbos.
In their separate goodwill messages, the President of Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio represented by the Deputy President of Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin and the Speaker House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas urged the people to synergize in championing the course of establishing peace in the region.
The President Bola Tinubu was later conferred with the chieftaincy title of Omezirigbo the first of Igboland and the Vice President with the chieftaincy title of Enyi oma ndi igbo amongst other highlights were featured at the event.
