NUT In Niger State Directs Members To Join Strike Today

Niger state Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT has directed it’s branches to join the strike action today by mobilising teachers at both primary and post primary schools within their respective branches to comply with the Organised Labour directive.

This followed the directive by Organised Labour  directing its affiliates to commence an indefinite strike action effective 8am on Wednesday, the  21st of February, this year to press home its demands.

The directive is contained in a statement signed and issued to Newsmen in Minna by the Principal Assistant Secretary General of NUT Niger state Wing Comrade Labaran Garba.

It however assured the NUT members of it’s resolve to communicate to them accordingly in case of any change of decision.

Secretary to the Niger State Government Alh Abubakar Gawu had yesterday afternoon requested for a meeting with members of Organised Labour in Minna a request that has been turned down by the labour union.

At the time of filling in this report there has been last minutes rush and  consultation going own last night by some key members of Niger state government trying to meet with Organised Labour with a view to suspend the strike.

All efforts to contact the Chairman Niger state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Comrade Idris Lafene late yesterday night has failed as his self phone was switched off, while the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy Binta Mamman did not pick her phone to comment on the stance of Niger state government.
