A Coalition Of Civil Society Organizations has called on the Senate Committee on human rights and legal matters to investigate the alleged violent attack against journalists and protesters at the headquarters of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC last month.
They made the call at a news conference in Abuja. According to the Spokesperson of the Group Comrade Williams Bassey, the protesters were peaceful and did not warrant the unjustified reaction of EFCC officials who fired teargas and gunshots to disperse them.
Comrade Williams said the action was an outright violation of chapter four of the 1999 constitution as Amended which conferred every citizen with the right to fair hearing, freedom of thought and right to freedom of movement.
The Group demanded that the committee should invite the chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukoyede to respond to the allegations, urging the National Assembly to ensure justice on the issue.
