Mr. Suleiman explained that Nigeria had over thirty-five million mechanics and technicians stressing that the government offices were littered with breakdown vehicles that could be easily fixed.
He stressed the need for the Government to apply the approach of subsidy removal to the idea of buying new vehicles for politicians every four years.
He stated that the Union was having lots of issues due to lack of cohesion resulting from not speaking with one voice.
The President however explained that the past leaders of the Union had collaborated and registered a formidable union that would cater for the interest of all stakeholders in the sector.
Also, the President of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, Alhaji Yusuf Othmam, represented by a former President of the Association, Dr Kassim Bataiya urged the Union to maintain highest standards of professionalism, ethics and excellence.
A representative of the Inspector General of Police at the event, advised the Union to strategize on ensuring adequate and meaningful collaboration with the police to prevent vehicle theft since mechanics and technicians could prevent the stealing of vehicles across the Country.
