The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to pray for political leaders, describing politicians as the primary cause of the country’s challenges.
Obi made the call on Sunday, February 1, while speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan. The service formed part of activities marking the seventh day of celebrations for Oyo State at 50.
Addressing the congregation, Obi appealed to Nigerians to remember political leaders in their prayers, admitting that governance failures were responsible for the nation’s struggles.
“I want to make a request of Nigerians. Please remember us politicians in your prayers. We are the problem of Nigeria. No other person,” he said.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s difficulties were not a result of a lack of resources but of poor leadership and mismanagement of public funds.
“Nigeria is not a poor country; it is poorly governed. Remember us in your prayers, that God should touch our hearts to use public money for public good. That is what is required. If public funds are used properly, Nigeria will be good,” Obi added.
