The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has officially suspended its nationwide strike, following high-level negotiations involving the National Security Adviser and the management of Dangote Refinery.

PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, announced the development on Wednesday during a press conference in Abuja, saying the suspension was done “in good faith” despite unresolved concerns.

“We have decided to suspend the strike action after constructive engagement with the National Security Adviser and the management of Dangote Refinery. However, we must state clearly that some grey areas still remain in the communiqué,” Osifo said.

Grey Areas Remain

While the resolution led to the suspension of the industrial action, Osifo acknowledged that not all concerns raised by the union were fully addressed by the parties involved.

“The communiqué contains sections that remain unclear or unsatisfactory, but we are giving room for good faith implementation,” he noted.

Warning of Possible Strike Resumption

Osifo warned that if the Dangote Refinery fails to honor the terms of the agreement reached during negotiations, PENGASSAN will resume the strike without prior notice.

“This is a conditional suspension. If there is any breach of the agreement, we will not hesitate to return to the trenches,” he declared.
