A bride-to-be and several other residents of Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area, Sokoto State, were reportedly abducted by suspected bandits just hours before her wedding ceremony. The attack, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, resulted in the kidnapping of the bride, her bridesmaids, and eight additional villagers.
According to local sources, all the abducted victims were women except for one man. One individual sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
A resident of the community described the incident as devastating, noting that the bride’s wedding, scheduled to take place later that morning was canceled due to the abduction. He added that the attackers also seized seven other women and one man before fleeing the area.
The resident criticized the slow response of security personnel, explaining that although authorities were notified immediately, security operatives arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m., nearly an hour after the attackers had left. He urged the government to strengthen its efforts to safeguard citizens and their property.
Confirming the incident, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, said the police have launched an investigation and are working to verify all details surrounding the abduction.
