Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva has opened up about one of the advantages of marrying an older partner, offering rare insight into her decades-long marriage to Nollywood legend Olu Jacobs.
The 64-year-old actress shared the heartfelt revelation during a recent appearance on TVC’s Your View, where she reflected on their enduring love story and what has sustained their union over the years.
Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs got married in 1985 despite a 20-year age difference. Recalling how their relationship began, the award-winning actress revealed that while it was love at first sight for Jacobs, she did not feel the same immediately.
According to her, they first met on stage before reconnecting on a movie set. While many around her were excited about meeting the celebrated actor, she admitted she did not initially share the same awe.
She explained that it was only after they began dating that she discovered his real age, noting that he looked much younger than he actually was at the time.
“For him, it was love at first sight, but for me, it wasn’t,” she said, adding humorously, “These older men allow you to get away with a lot of things.”
Olu Jacobs was 44 when he married the then 24-year-old Joke Silva. Nearly four decades later, their marriage remains one of Nollywood’s most admired unions.
The couple shares two children and continues to be celebrated as an enduring example of love and commitment in the Nigerian film industry.
