A devastating rainstorm has displaced several residents and destroyed critical infrastructure in Ogele, a community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The storm, which struck late at night, caused extensive damage to both public and private properties, including the Ansarul Islam Primary School, Community Secondary School, a local health center, and several mosques. Essential utilities were also affected, with concrete poles and high-tension wires supplying electricity to Ogele, Afon, and nearby communities brought down by the storm.
Victims of the disaster, speaking with journalists, lamented their losses and called on the government, well-meaning individuals, and organizations to come to their aid.
The Aare Ogele, Alhaji Abubakar Akanbi, whose residence was also affected, urged authorities to provide relief for the victims, including the community’s Mufti. Similarly, the Chairman of the Ogele Descendants Progressive Union (ODPU), Alhaji Issa Akanbi-Oniyo, described the situation as dire, emphasizing that many residents have been left without shelter.
Community members now look to the government and humanitarian organizations for urgent intervention to rebuild their homes and restore their properties.
