As the world marks International Workers’ Day 2024, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian workers for their resilience, commitment, and invaluable contributions to national development amid prevailing socio-economic challenges.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio applauded the dedication of Nigerian workers, describing them as the backbone of the nation’s economy.
“Today, we celebrate the hard work and sacrifices of Nigerian workers. The Senate and the entire National Assembly deeply appreciate your commitment to nation-building. Despite daunting challenges, you continue to prioritise the growth and progress of our beloved country,” Akpabio stated.
The former Akwa Ibom State Governor reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th National Assembly and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to safeguarding the rights and welfare of workers across the country. He assured that no worker would face victimisation for demanding their rights or seeking lawful redress.
“Under our leadership, no Nigerian worker will be marginalised or punished for standing up for their rights. We acknowledge your resilience and recognise your pivotal role in driving economic growth. Your contributions remain critical to the future of our great nation,” he added.
Akpabio further pledged that the Senate would continue to enact labour-friendly legislation, prioritising the welfare, security, and working conditions of Nigerian workers. He emphasised the National Assembly’s resolve to partner with the Executive in creating better opportunities and addressing workers’ concerns.
“I must emphasise that Nigerian workers are a source of national pride. The Senate, in collaboration with the Executive, is determined to address the issues affecting the workforce and build a brighter, more prosperous future for all,” he noted.
Concluding his message, Akpabio extended his warm wishes to Nigerian workers on behalf of his family, constituents, and colleagues in the 10th Assembly, urging them to celebrate the day peacefully.
