Abuja teams dominate at National Volleyball League finals, Umuahia

The ten-day National Division One and Division Two Volleyball League, organized by the Volleyball Federation of Nigeria (NVBF) in collaboration with the Abia State Government, has concluded in Umuahia, with teams from Abuja emerging as the biggest winners.

In the National Division One Men’s category, Defense Spikers Volleyball Club of Abuja claimed the championship title, while Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club of Kwara State and Lifecamp Volleyball Club, also from Abuja, finished in second and third place respectively.

The Female Division One category was equally dominated by Abuja teams, with VIP Volleyball Club of Abuja emerging champions. They were followed by Federal Fire Service Volleyball Club of Abujain second place and Excelsior Volleyball Club of Abia State in third.

In the National Division Two Men’s League, Light Volleyball Club of Abuja clinched first place, while Bayelsa Volleyball Club and Rhino Volleyball Club of Plateau State took second and third positions.

Announcing the results at the Umuahia Township Stadium Indoor Hall, the NVBF President, Mr. Musa Nimrod, represented by the Vice President, Mr. Adamu Tanimu, commended the high standard of organization, describing the tournament as a major step toward advancing volleyball in Nigeria.

Mr. Nimrod highlighted the importance of sports in promoting diplomacy and unity, and expressed the hope that the next national tournament would also take place in Abia State. He praised Governor Dr. Alex Otti for his unwavering support in ensuring a successful competition.

Also speaking, the Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Nwobilor Ananaba, said the championship created an opportunity to discover new volleyball talents across the country and credited the success of the event to Governor Otti’s strong commitment to youth and sports development.

The Director of Sports, Mr. George Obioma, also lauded the state government for providing quality facilities, describing the games as “highly competitive” and expressed optimism that Abia State would host the 2026 National Volleyball Championship.

A total of 34 teams from 20 states, including Abia, Plateau, Bauchi, Sokoto, Bayelsa, Kwara, Katsina, and the FCT, participated in the Division One and Two Volleyball Leagues.
