The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the ruling of the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the results of the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
In a statement signed by the party’s state publicity secretary, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, and made available to Radio Nigeria, the PDP reiterated its respect for the judiciary but expressed strong disagreement with the tribunal’s decision.
According to the statement, the party firmly believes that its candidate, Mr. Asuerinme Ighodalo, secured the majority of votes and that this was convincingly demonstrated before the tribunal.
“As a political party, we hold the judiciary in the highest esteem and respect the judgment. However, we completely disagree with the decision of the tribunal,” the statement read.
The PDP urged its supporters to remain steadfast, assuring them that all legal and democratic avenues would be pursued to ensure what it described as the “enthronement of the will of the people of Edo State.”
Mr. Nehikhare further encouraged party members to remain resolute in the face of what he termed a “temporary setback,” affirming that the party would seek redress at the appellate courts.
