A retired officer of the Nigeria Police Force has sparked concern after threatening to join the insurgent group Boko Haram over unresolved pension issues.

In a video that has gone viral, the ex-officer expressed deep frustration over what he described as prolonged neglect and hardship since leaving active service. He warned that continued inaction by authorities could push him to take drastic measures.

“If nothing is done about this, I’ll go to the other side and join Boko Haram. I’ll be helping them and training them,” he said.

The retired officer described his pension experience as akin to “slavery,” highlighting the severity of his situation and the challenges he has faced in accessing his entitlements.

His comments have drawn attention to the growing dissatisfaction among retired security personnel in Nigeria, many of whom have repeatedly complained about delayed pension payments, inadequate benefits, and a lack of post-service support despite years of service to the nation.

The development underscores broader concerns about the welfare of former law enforcement officers and the need for reforms to address pension administration in the country.
