Nigeria and Algeria have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic ties, pledging to strengthen cooperation across key sectors following a high-level meeting in Algiers between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Ahmed Attaf.

During their bilateral talks, both ministers expressed mutual interest in revitalizing strategic platforms such as the Nigeria-Algeria Binational Commission, enhancing political and economic coordination, and advancing joint priorities on continental and global issues. The renewed engagement signals a fresh momentum in Nigeria-Algeria relations, aimed at boosting multilateral cooperation and fostering regional stability.

In a related development, Ambassador Tuggar also presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Chancery building for the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers. Held at the diplomatic district of Dely Ibrahim, the event was attended by senior Algerian officials, Nigerian embassy staff, and members of the Nigerian diaspora community.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister emphasized that the new eco-friendly, security-enhanced facility represents a major stride in Nigeria’s diplomatic modernization drive. “This Chancery will not only improve service delivery but also reflect the professionalism and dignity of Nigeria’s foreign missions,” Tuggar said.

The construction is set to begin immediately and is projected to be completed within 18 months, aligning with the Foreign Ministry’s reform agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s global presence and operational capacity abroad.
