The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched a regional awareness campaign addressing drug abuse and mental health in Monrovia, Liberia, from August 4 to 8, 2025.

The campaign, which follows similar efforts in Conakry, Guinea, and Freetown, Sierra Leone, earlier this year, is part of ECOWAS’s growing initiative to tackle the rising threat of substance abuse and mental health challenges across West Africa—especially among the youth.

A delegation comprising ECOWAS Parliament members and staff will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including government officials, medical professionals, civil society leaders, and youth advocates. Activities will include public sensitization sessions, community outreach, and field visits to drug rehabilitation and mental health facilities.

According to ECOWAS, the campaign is a proactive step toward fostering a healthier, more resilient regional community by promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging cross-sector collaboration on prevention and treatment strategies.
