Renowned Nigerian musician Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has revealed that his greatest fear in life is returning to poverty.
Speaking during a recent interview on the Nancy Isime Show, the award-winning artiste explained that while he does not fear death, the possibility of experiencing financial hardship again terrifies him.
Mr P recalled growing up in severe poverty, sharing a single rented room with his parents and seven siblings.
He narrated how their home was demolished after the landlord sold the property, leaving the family helpless. He said the traumatic memory has remained a powerful motivation throughout his life.
In his words: “I am not afraid of death. The only thing I am afraid of is poverty, being broke. I have tasted it before. A bulldozer came and demolished our house while we were still inside. We were eight children and our parents all living in one room, divided by a curtain.”
Okoye added that those early struggles continue to drive his determination to work hard and ensure he never returns to such difficult conditions.
