The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates intending to register for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) to ensure that their National Identification Number (NIN) details are accurate before creating their registration profiles.
The advisory was contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin published on its official website and obtained on Monday. The examination body warned that incorrect or inconsistent NIN information could lead to avoidable challenges during the registration and examination processes.
“Candidates are strongly advised to first verify that their National Identification Number details are accurate and correctly captured before initiating profile creation,” JAMB stated.
“Incorrect NIN information could result in avoidable challenges during registration and the examination process.”
JAMB noted that registration for the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry could commence at any time, urging prospective candidates to use the period to cross-check their personal details and ensure consistency across all relevant databases.
The board further warned that opportunities to correct personal information are often limited, as correction windows are sometimes constrained by technical and administrative challenges.
“Candidates are therefore advised to take personal responsibility for the accuracy of their details from the start, as not all requests for corrections may be accommodated,” the statement read.
JAMB concluded by calling on all candidates to cooperate with the guidelines to ensure a smooth, transparent, and hitch-free 2026 UTME and DE registration exercise.
