The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that nearly 10 million Nigerians initiated the online pre-registration process during the first phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, underscoring growing public interest in electoral participation.

INEC had earlier launched the online pre-registration portal before commencing physical registration at designated centres nationwide.

In a statement issued in December, the commission disclosed that 9,891,801 Nigerians began the online pre-registration process during the initial phase of the exercise.

According to INEC, 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide as of November 28, 2025. The figure includes 1,503,832 completed online registrations and 1,068,222 registrations finalised through physical enrolment across the country.

The commission explained that the break between the two phases of registration was used to fulfil statutory obligations as required by law.

“In accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections was conducted from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise took place,” INEC stated.

INEC urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to be captured in the voters’ register to take advantage of the resumption of the exercise to register, transfer their voting locations, or update their personal details.

The electoral body also encouraged citizens who participated in the first phase to verify their registration details and report any errors.

“Those who have registered are advised to check their information, request corrections where necessary, and raise objections to the inclusion of ineligible or deceased persons on the voters’ register,” the commission added.

However, INEC noted that CVR activities remain suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities in both locations.

The commission assured that fresh dates for the resumption of voter registration in Anambra State and the FCT would be announced in due course.
