Yhemolee slams Opeyemi Famakin over critical review of wife’s perfume brand

Social media was set abuzz after nightlife influencer Yhemolee publicly reacted to a review by popular food critic Opeyemi Famakin about a perfume brand owned by Yhemolee’s wife.

In a series of emotional posts shared online, Yhemolee accused Famakin of being insincere, claiming the critic had previously presented himself as friendly while making what he described as demeaning and unnecessary comments about the perfume.

Yhemolee questioned how someone who publicly claims to like him could go on to criticise a product associated with his household. He stressed that the brand does not require Famakin’s validation, revealing that the perfume line has sold out twice, with over 1,000 bottles sold so far.

According to him, the particular fragrance that drew criticism is currently the brand’s best-selling scent.

The influencer further alleged that during the perfume’s launch, the brand’s marketing team had approached Famakin for a review, but the food critic allegedly demanded a ₦6 million fee. Yhemolee suggested that the negative review only emerged after the brand recorded success without Famakin’s involvement.

He also argued that if the review was genuinely constructive, it should have been communicated privately rather than shared publicly, especially since his name was mentioned. Yhemolee concluded by saying the incident has helped him reassess and “filter” the people he associates with on social media.
