Archbishop Okoh Calls for Hope, Resilience Amid Nigeria’s Lenten Journey

As Christians worldwide observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Nigerians to embrace faith, unity, and resilience amid the nation’s challenges.

In a statement extending prayers and goodwill, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, emphasized that the 40-day Lenten period is a time for sacrifice, prayer, and charity, encouraging citizens to look beyond present difficulties and find hope in their faith and community.

Archbishop Okoh urged Nigerians to foster coexistence by letting go of bitterness, extending kindness to one another, and seeking God’s grace for the journey ahead.

“Whether fasting from food or other passions, this season reminds us that we are united as one people under God, connected by our shared struggles and dreams,” he stated.

He further called on citizens to use Lent as an opportunity to deepen their love for one another, pray for national peace, and work towards a just and dignified society.

The CAN president also appealed for prayers for the nation’s leaders to govern with wisdom and compassion, for young people to find purpose and opportunity, and for all Nigerians to rise above division to build a country they can take pride in.
