Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee, has stirred public debate after openly affirming his Biafran identity and emphasizing that all Igbo people share the same cultural heritage.
The music star recently clarified his stance during an interview on Yanga 89.9 FM in Lagos, where he discussed culture, history, and personal identity in contemporary Nigeria.
His comments came shortly after he avoided giving a direct answer on the subject during a conversation with skit maker Carter Efe, prompting further interest in his views.
Kcee stated firmly that the Igbo people trace their origins to Biafra, describing it as a cultural and historical identity rather than a political declaration.
“As far as I am concerned, every Igbo man under the sun today is a Biafran. I am a Biafran. I am an Igbo man, and Biafra is where we are from. It is just like the Arewas and Oduduwas,” he said.
Kcee further explained that Biafra symbolizes the Igbo homeland and should not be confused with modern political movements.
He also shared historical context, noting that the name “Biafra” was adopted during the 1967 civil war after Frank Opigo from Bayelsa proposed it as a unifying identity for the Igbo region.
His remarks had added fresh layers to public discussions about cultural identity among Nigeria’s ethnic groups.
