A high-capacity commercial bus was engulfed by fire on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, causing major traffic disruption along the busy corridor.
The incident occurred near the Adekunle axis of the bridge while the bus was reportedly heading towards Iyana Oworo. As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear whether any casualties were recorded.
The fire outbreak led to a slowdown in vehicular movement on the bridge, prompting the swift deployment of firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said its officials were on ground to manage traffic and minimise congestion in the affected area.
“A high-capacity bus is on fire on the Third Mainland Bridge, by Adekunle, inwards Iyana Oworo, affecting traffic.”
The agency added that emergency response efforts were ongoing.
“Efforts are ongoing to put out the fire, and our officers are on scene managing the traffic situation,” the statement read.
Motorists were advised to exercise patience and consider alternative routes as emergency responders worked to bring the situation under control. Further updates are expected from relevant authorities as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
