Suspected cultists have brutally murdered the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, and his aide, Chigozie Oluwu, during a late-night attack in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.
The incident occurred at a popular drinking spot along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, where eyewitnesses said about seven armed men arrived in two vehicles and stormed the premises.
According to residents, the assailants immediately identified Azuazu, pointed guns at him and ordered him into their waiting vehicle. His aide, Oluwu, reportedly attempted to intervene but was shot at close range by the attackers and died on the spot.
The abduction sparked panic in the area as passersby and residents fled for safety, while several business owners hurriedly shut down their shops.
Hours later, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command, alongside members of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), recovered the headless body of Azuazu in a forest in Omoku.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the killing was linked to cult-related activities.
“The Rivers State Police Command confirms the killing of Chigozie Oluwu and the abduction, beheading and recovery of the corpse of the Omoku Youth President, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu,” Iringe-Koko stated.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the attack.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed that a thorough investigation be carried out with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” she said.
Security has since been heightened in parts of Omoku as residents mourn the tragic loss and call for swift action against cult violence in the area.
