More than 50 survivors of the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State are currently receiving medical treatment in various hospitals for injuries sustained during the attacks.
The victims suffered varying degrees of harm, including gunshot wounds, after gunmen stormed Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in an attack that claimed at least 75 lives, razed shops and a traditional ruler’s residence, and forced residents to flee their homes.
The Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sadiq Umar, visited some of the injured survivors where he expressed deep sympathy and described the incident as heartbreaking.
“This tragedy has shaken us all. My heart goes out to every family affected by this senseless violence,” Umar said during the visit. “I pray for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment, and I assure you of my continued support throughout your healing process.”

The lawmaker commended President Bola Tinubu for the swift deployment of security personnel under Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at restoring peace and tracking down those responsible for the attack.
He also praised Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as a prompt response, particularly the directive to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to distribute relief materials to displaced residents.
“I commend Governor AbdulRazaq for acting quickly to provide support to affected communities. However, we must sustain security operations across Kwara North, which has continued to face serious security challenges,” Umar added.
He urged residents to remain united, hopeful and prayerful, while reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of his constituents and calling for lasting peace in the region.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area following the attack.
In a statement, the Nigerian Police Force condemned the incident, describing it as tragic, and confirmed that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
While some reports suggested a higher casualty figure, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed during an interview that the death toll stood at 75.
Governor AbdulRazaq also described the incident as a “pure massacre,” revealing that at least 75 victims had already been buried.
President Tinubu has further reinforced security in the state by ordering the deployment of an army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield.
Political groups, including the Northern States Governors’ Forum, have condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and calling for decisive action to bring the attackers to justice.
