Nigerian celebrity jeweller Malivelihood has unveiled a luxury smartphone designed specifically for supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, the jeweller showcased a customised 24-karat gold version of the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max, created in honour of the City Boy Movement, a campaign slogan closely associated with Tinubu’s supporters.

The device comes in a lavish package adorned with symbols of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasising its political branding. According to online reports, an anonymous buyer is believed to have placed an order for about 200 units of the customised phone.

In the now-viral video, Malivelihood unboxed the luxury device, highlighting its engraved details, premium gold finish and customised casing. The smartphone also features branding linked to the City Boy Movement, reinforcing its connection to Tinubu’s political base.

Known for producing high-end customised accessories for influential Nigerians, the jeweller expressed pride while displaying the glittering gadget.

However, the launch has sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians criticising the timing of the reveal.

Some users argued that showcasing such an extravagant item appears insensitive at a time when the country is grappling with rising inflation, increasing living costs and persistent power shortages.
