American basketball star of Nigerian descent, Arike Ogunbowale, has been arrested following an alleged altercation with a security guard at a Miami nightclub on Thursday night.
According to police reports, officers were called to E11EVEN Miami after authorities received reports of a disturbance. The complaint stated that a physical altercation had broken out inside the venue.
Police noted that when they arrived near the club’s rear exit, a crowd was being escorted out by security personnel. The alleged victim, a security guard, told officers that he had been trying to remove Ogunbowale from the club following an earlier dispute when she allegedly punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
The 29-year-old Ogunbowale was identified at the scene and taken into custody without incident on a battery charge. Security cameras at the club reportedly captured the incident.
Earlier that evening, Ogunbowale had been celebrating with her Dallas Wings teammates after their championship victory over Phantom, scoring 19 points in the game. Videos circulating online also show her partying with fellow players Paige Bueckers and Aziaha James before the incident occurred.
Ogunbowale, a four-time WNBA All-Star and two-time All-Star Game MVP, led the league in scoring in 2020 and previously won an NCAA championship with Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women’s basketball.
In response to inquiries, the nightclub released a general statement saying it does not comment on individual guests. E11EVEN Miami said it was proud to host the championship after-party for the Unrivaled champions and highlighted its commitment to providing a world-class venue for athletes and teams.
