Inter Milan strengthened their grip on the Serie A title race with a commanding 5–2 victory over AS Roma on Sunday, ending a brief dip in form and moving nine points clear at the top of the table.

The result puts Inter firmly in control as they chase a 21st league title, while closest challengers AC Milan prepare to face reigning champions Napoli on Monday.

Inter’s resurgence was inspired by the return of captain Lautaro Martinez, who scored twice after nearly two months out injured. Marcus Thuram also played a key role, contributing a goal and two assists.

Martinez wasted no time in making an impact, firing Inter ahead inside the opening minute after a well-worked pass from Thuram at the San Siro.

Roma responded before half-time through a header from Gianluca Mancini, briefly levelling the score. However, Hakan Calhanoglu restored Inter’s lead with a powerful long-range strike just before the break.

The hosts dominated the second half, with Martinez netting his second goal in the 52nd minute from another Thuram assist. Moments later, Thuram got on the scoresheet himself, heading in from a Calhanoglu corner to extend the lead.

Nicolo Barella added a fifth goal shortly after the hour mark, capitalising on defensive lapses from Roma to seal an emphatic victory.

Roma managed a late consolation through captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, but the defeat dealt a significant blow to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The loss leaves Roma sixth on the table, trailing fourth-placed Como by three points and level with Juventus, who have a game in hand.
