The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), through its Directorate of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, has convened a regional workshop in Abuja, Nigeria, to refine and finalize a draft Civil-Military Coordination Strategy for Humanitarian Action.

The four-day event, held from August 5 to 8, 2025, brings together experts from ECOWAS Member States, Centres of Excellence, civil society, the media, and humanitarian organizations across the region.

Participants will review the draft document to ensure it aligns with international standards and best practices. Once adopted, the strategy will serve as a regional framework to guide cooperation between military and civilian actors during humanitarian operations in West Africa.
