Gunshot Kills Man Inside Church in Akwa Ibom, Police Recover Locally Made Pistol

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a 45-year-old man, Udeme Uko, who was found dead in a pool of blood while sleeping with his wife and children inside a church in Ikot Oku Usung village, Ukanafun Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Uyo, the state capital.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the victim, his wife, and children were asleep in the church when a gunshot rang out. It was later discovered that Mr. Udeme Uko had been shot in the head, raising suspicions of suicide or a targeted attack,” the statement read.

The police were alerted by residents who received the report from Uko’s wife. Upon arrival at the scene, officers recovered a locally made pistol believed to have been used in the incident. The body has since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

The state Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing. He assured the public that all necessary resources will be deployed to uncover the truth and bring any perpetrators to justice.
