The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed heartfelt condolences to the Republic of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two senior cabinet ministers — Honourable Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Honourable Minister of Environment, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed — along with other government officials.

The ill-fated flight was en route to Obuasi when it lost contact with air traffic control, later discovered in a forested area with no survivors.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Nigeria described the incident as a painful loss not only for Ghana but for the entire West African subregion. “This devastating incident has robbed Ghana of visionary leaders whose service to their nation and the region stood as pillars of commitment to peace, security, and environmental progress,” the government said.

Dr. Boamah and Hon. Muhammed were hailed as devoted public servants whose legacy would be remembered for fostering regional cooperation and sustainable development.

“Nigeria stands firmly with Ghana in this time of sorrow,” the statement continued. “We mourn with the government and people of Ghana and extend our prayers to the grieving families.”

Reaffirming its strong bilateral relationship with Ghana, Nigeria pledged to continue working closely with the neighbouring country to strengthen peace, unity, and mutual progress across West Africa.

“May the Almighty grant the people of Ghana the strength to endure this tragic loss and guide the souls of the departed to eternal rest,” the government concluded.
