The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial vandal accused of repeatedly targeting electricity transformer installations across the state.
In a statement released in Ilorin, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that on November 3, 2025, at about 5:50 p.m., operatives from the Eruku Police Divisionapprehended Samson Ayodele, a resident of Skyway Road, Egbe, Kogi State, while he was vandalizing the transformer that supplies power to Koro Town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Items recovered from the suspect include three copper wire bars, one fuse, two connection bars, two wooden covers, two aluminium wires, several bolts and nuts, a bag of tools, and a digital scale.
During interrogation, Ayodele confessed to the crime and admitted that he had previously been arrested, charged, and imprisoned in Kogi State for similar offences. He, however, resumed the illegal activity shortly after his release from prison.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the vigilance of staff from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and the quick response of the Eruku Police Division, noting that the arrest underscores the command’s determination to protect critical infrastructure across Kwara State.

CP Ojo condemned vandalism as a criminal act that disrupts essential public services and warned that such offences will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to collaborate with communities and service providers to identify and apprehend criminals targeting public utilities,” Ojo stated.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements around electricity installations and other public utilities to the nearest police station, emphasizing that timely information was vital for public safety and service continuity.
