The Nigerian Army has taken a major leap toward modernising its military training system with the inauguration of a cutting-edge Wargaming Centre at the Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji.
The facility was unveiled on Saturday and is designed to enhance strategic thinking, operational planning, and battlefield simulation for officers.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, welcomed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to producing officers who are intellectually, strategically, and professionally prepared for command roles in today’s increasingly complex security environment.
Air Vice Marshal Alhaji described the Wargaming Centre as a significant milestone in the evolution of Nigeria’s military training architecture. He noted that the facility—conceived and championed by the COAS—will enhance the ability of personnel to analyse modern operational concepts, build strategic foresight, and sharpen combat decision-making across dynamic and technology-driven battlefields.
He commended Army leadership for delivering a world-class simulation hub and assured that the College will continue supporting the Department of Land Warfare in providing high-level professional military education.

In his keynote address, Lieutenant General Shaibu reaffirmed AFCSC’s status as a national and regional centre of excellence, known for grooming officers capable of addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He emphasised that the new Wargaming Centre will serve as a critical platform for refining commanders’ capability to plan, rehearse, and execute missions with enhanced precision.
Shaibu highlighted the necessity of investing in advanced training technologies, stating that staying ahead of adversaries requires constant innovation and modernisation.
He urged instructors and students to fully utilise the centre, particularly as military operations increasingly occur in fast-changing, unpredictable, and digitally influenced environments.
Reiterating his broader vision of upgrading military training infrastructure to global standards, the COAS noted AFCSC’s international reputation as a destination for officers from across the world.
He stressed that facilities like the Wargaming Centre are not only timely but essential for keeping Nigeria’s armed forces competitive and combat-ready.
Lieutenant General Shaibu expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of national security initiatives, acknowledging that this backing has been instrumental in driving the Army’s ongoing transformation. He also commended the College leadership and staff for their dedication to strengthening military professionalism across all levels.
