NECO Acquires N500M High-Speed Scanner to Boost Exam Efficiency

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has taken a major step toward enhancing the efficiency, credibility, and security of its examinations by acquiring a state-of-the-art Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanner.

During the inauguration of the newly installed machine in Minna, Niger State, NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, emphasized that the upgrade aligns with the council’s commitment to improving accuracy, speed, and reliability in its examination process.

According to Professor Wushishi, the newly acquired Scantron Insight 1500c scanner—renowned for its precision and speed—will significantly enhance data processing capabilities. The high-performance machine, valued at approximately N500 million, is capable of scanning over 15,000 OMR sheets per hour and 250 sheets per minute, ensuring faster and more accurate result processing for millions of candidates worldwide.

He further stated that this investment demonstrates NECO’s dedication to leveraging technology to streamline its examinatIon procedures.

Speaking on the development, Scantron Company’s Technical Adviser, Mr. Tom Harry, who trained NECO staff on operating the machine, praised their dedication and diligence throughout the training process.

This latest technological upgrade is expected to revolutionize NECO’s examination management, reducing processing time and enhancing overall credibility.
